Jade’s Top Ten Halloween Movies

10. Terrifier (2016)

If gross out horror is your thing, then this gore fest is for you. Art the demonic Clown has chosen his victims, and nothing can stand in his way from a night of grotesque torture. This is however not for the faint hearted and is most well known for making people, leave, faint, and even throw up in the cinema!

9. Ghostbusters (1984)

This 80s action-comedy provides plenty of laughs for the spooky season. A team of scientists works together to protect New York from paranormal evil as ghosts threaten to overrun the city. It’s an absolute classic with an all-star cast that’s guaranteed to supply some light-hearted fun this Halloween.

8. The Descent (2006)

A group of adrenaline junkie friends decide that it’s a good idea to enter a previously unexplored cave system. A rock collapse leaves them trapped and if that wasn’t enough horror, this claustrophobic, survivalist nightmare quickly descends (see what I did there) into a full-on creature feature. This criminally underrated British horror movie deserves far more attention than it gets.

7. Final Destination (2000)

After a schoolboy has a premonition that saves his life from a plane explosion, he and his friends find themselves haunted by a mysterious string of ‘accidental’ deaths. The survivors must watch each other’s backs to stay alive as they realise they’re being hunted by Death itself. This is the perfect movie for you if you enjoy supernatural intrigue coupled with increasingly dramatic and quite frankly hilarious kill scenes.

6. Beetlejuice (1988)

Tim Burton is at his finest in this outrageous horror comedy. As a married couple struggle to adapt to the afterlife, they call upon bio-exorcist Beetlejuice to rid their home of its new buyers. With whacky production designs, beautiful costumes, and a killer cast, this 80s classic is perfect for a spooky night in.

5. Corpse Bride (2005)

Another Tim Burton classic for you , only this time we’re going animated. This claymation musical sees a young man, struggling with the idea of an arranged marriage, find himself accidentally married to a corpse. After being taken to the land of the dead, Victor must find a way to divorce his new bride when death has already parted them. Its cute, its funny, its visually stunning, it’s a perfect movie.

4. Jennifer’s Body (2009)

This movie deserves an apology from Hollywood and audiences everywhere because it was way ahead of its time. After Jennifer is sacrificed by an indie band for fame and fortune, a demon takes hold of her body, forcing her to stay strong the only way she can, eating boys. It takes a skilled script to tackle such a dark theme with humour and body horror. This teen horror comedy is an amazing addition to the ‘good for her’ horror subgenre.

3. Scream (1996)

An iconic teen horror comedy and the best movie of the whole franchise. After a gruesome murder, heroine Sydney finds herself at the central target of a grisly killing spree. Giving birth to the Halloween mask that has haunted costume shops for the past twenty years, this movie is so quotable, not actually too scary, and has an incredible cast of 90s legends. What more could you ask for?

2. Halloween

I mean the clue is quite literally in the name so obviously it had to go on the list. It’s a horror classic that has stood the test of time as one of the most atmospheric movies of all time. Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode is the final girl and gives an outstanding performance as the babysitter being stalked by Michael Myers. With a killer signature theme tune and 70s vibes, this is the perfect movie for your Halloween.

1. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

This is the perfect movie to watch before bed on Halloween night. This visually stunning, clay-mation musical tells the story of Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon), the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town as he becomes disillusioned with the holiday. After stumbling upon Christmas Town, he decides to take over Christmas for the year. However, chaos ensues when its ultimately given a spooky twist at the hands of the town’s monsters. Not only is it a cosy classic, but it perfectly sets you up for the next holiday season, Christmas!
