january

the earth made sombre with a slicking shine,

as it echoes under my leaden feet.

I bundle under woolen layers there,

as the great wind rushes,

to snuff my small, quivering heat out.

as the sky falls in flurries of rain,

I find shelter under crowded cover.

passed by familiar shadows,

long figures of grey, blue and black.

all with their heads held low,

white eyes quietly closed.

as they march forward, against the fiery once more.

wishing to be dreaming,

away from the constant cold.
